Treasure Hunt – Game Show (4/4)
Treasure Hunt was a 1950′s game show aired first by ABC and later by NBC. The show ran from 1956-1959. This episode is believed to have aired on March 20, 1958. The rules are pretty straight forward but the game is very interesting. Contestants begin by competing in a quiz and then go on to pick one of many treasure chests containing prizes. The prizes revealed in this episode are quite nice. Host Jan Murray puts plenty of energy into the show and keeps the pace moving right along. All in all an excellent game show. Yes, your comment does make sense. I’ve read that about Johnny but it certainly worked out well for him. He was just paying his dues like every other successful entertainer. I do miss him.
I remember “Treasure Hunt” on TV when I was a boy. (Comment please – Based on this clip, the show seems to be a forerunner to “Deal or No Deal.” Does this make sense?) Jan Murray, the host, was a stand-up comedian, like many of the other game show hosts of the 50s and 60s. Usually they were on their way up or down the entertainment food chain. Johnny Carson was considered a failure when he began hosting “Who Do You Trust?” before he did the “Tonight Show.”
That was TOTALLY weird but I liked it!
The dolls and vaporizer were GREAT! LOL
